Prof. Nasser H. Zawia is the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute’s (QBRI) Research Director involved in the strategic development of QBRI to guide and support the direction of the institute and oversee the implementation of the research strategy across the institute. He began his official role in 2021 to ensure that the research and scientific activities of QBRI align with recent scientific trends and address the strategic needs of the institute. He is tasked with developing and leading institute-wide scientific research programs and ensuring their successful implementation. He also works to build relationships with public and private entities in Qatar and worldwide to bring strategic value to QBRI. He served as Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Rhode Island, USA for ten years.

Mustafa al’Absi is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Biobehavioral Health, and he is the holder of the Max & Mary La Due Pickworth Endowed Chair at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He serves as an adjunct professor in Psychiatry and in Epidemiology, and as a graduate faculty member in the Departments of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology, and Integrated Biological Sciences. Dr. al’Absi directs the Behavioral Medicine Laboratories at two sites of the Medical School (Duluth and Minneapolis); and he is the current Director of the Duluth Global Health Research Institute (DGHRI)
